The Making of an Excellent Student (PDF)

The haphazard educational system of Nigeria and the unbearable circumstances surrounding the conduction of external examinations could be a terror and a nightmare to any student who thinks about it or give thoughts to it. This can also breed a lack of self-confidence and inward fear in students.

In all these, this is my message to every student: your future is not determined by what happens to you but by what you did about what happened. And no matter the times you’ve failed, it doesn’t define who you are. How well you rise after falling is what defines who you really are. The thought and the sight of the circumstances you go through academically can sap the confidence you have and inject fear into you. But you must never take counsel from your fears.

Start today and determine to make it academically no matter what tries to hinder you. The secret to making up your mind is filling your mind with thoughts of faith, confidence, and security. This would progressively expel and repel all thoughts of doubt, fear, and lack of confidence. Always picture success and not failure, no matter how badly things seem to be going at the moment.

This is because the mind always works with whatever you put in it or what it pictures. Depreciate the effect of every negative thought by voicing out positive words to yourself to counter it. Soak your mind with what God says concerning you in the Bible because you are not what people say you are but what God says you are.

Repeat this statement 10 times before your study period and every morning before you start up your day. Frame your day with it. Do it now also, before you continue reading, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippines 4:13) Your first step to success is receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior and believing in what God says about you. (This you will do at the end of this book).
